Slitter Operator

The primary responsibility of a Slitter Operator is to produce stock to achieve the defined standard efficiently and safely.   

This includes ensuring the safety and efficiency of the process and communicating effectively with colleagues to ensure that product is processed safely, efficiently, accurately and to the right quality to deliver performance targets. Solve operational, process and product problems. Contributing to Continual Improvement and driving improvements in safety, housekeeping, workplace organisation and environment, linking to SQDCP.  

All duties must be performed in strict adherence to safety procedures. 

You will be responsible for;

  • Operating and monitoring slitting machinery to ensure it is running at maximum capacity in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ensuring product quality meets defined specifications for colour, size, square and finish
  • Optimising machine output while minimising waste and broke
  • Comprehensive recording of all necessary information using company systems
  • Performing and assisting with routine maintenance and reporting breakdowns to relevant teams
  • Solving operational, process and product problems as they arise
  • Training new operatives within acceptable timeframes when required
  • Providing clear verbal and written communication
  • Following and contributing to improvements in safety, risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work

What will make you successful?

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment with a strong understanding of machinery and equipment operation
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills: Ability to work with others, comfortable in taking and giving direction with peers where necessary to achieve operational goals.  
  • Safety and Environment knowledge and skills such as locking off, manual handling Safe Systems of Work and waste/broke management, COSHH.  
  • Understanding of how to complete relevant documentation and use company computer systems  
  • Recognising safety hazards associated with operating a pulper and driving a Fork Lift Truck, carrying out Risk Assessments and developing Safe Systems of Work to minimise the risks.  
  • Understanding the potential cost and environmental impact of inefficient use of resources  

This is a Grade C - 3 Shift role
