James Cropper Advanced Materials is a global leader in high‑performance materials, innovation and sustainable solutions. Our team in Schenectady is growing, and we are looking for a dedicated Quality Technician to support our production, quality and innovation activities.

 

About the Role

As a Quality Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring that raw materials, in‑process materials, and finished goods consistently meet specification. You will collaborate closely across production, quality, and development teams—supporting day‑to‑day operations as well as new product and process advancements

This is a hands‑on role in a manufacturing environment, ideal for someone who enjoys technical problem solving, structured analysis, and contributing to continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct chemical and physical analyses to support production processes.
  • Communicate chemical additions or adjustments to line operators promptly.
  • Identify and resolve chemistry anomalies such as dusting, plate‑out or abnormal chemical usage.
  • Monitor replenishment pumps and calibrate equipment including ENStat and pH meters.
  • Prepare chemical solutions following standard formulas or experimental procedures.
  • Maintain accurate production records (e.g., bath chemistry, particle resistivity).
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory and analytical equipment; arrange preventive maintenance.
  • Write and update SOPs related to chemical analysis and instrument use.
  • Update and maintain quality  document database annually and as needed.  Serve as an administrator to the documentation system in compliance with quality and customer requirements.
  • Keep the lab and coating areas clean and well‑organised.
  • Manage chemical inventory and ordering of lab supplies.
  • Contribute to developing and documenting new analytical methods.
  • Determine and document QA/QC capabilities using statistical studies.
  • Support new materials and process development in areas such as coating and particle plating.

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt (training provided if needed).
  • Experience performing quantitative analysis in a manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and follow clear written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, including giving and receiving direction.

Work Schedule, Conditions, and Other Requirements: 

  • This is a both a hands-on and supervisory position, working Monday through Friday, typically from 7:00 to 15:30, primarily in a production environment. There is some opportunity for flexibility within this work schedule to meet individual needs.  
  • This position requires working with hazardous chemicals with appropriate personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, protective gloves, and, at times, a respirator. This position requires passing medical clearance for physical labor as well as respirator use and ensuring there are no conditions that may interfere with the face-to-facepiece respirator seal or respirator valve function. 
  • You must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process. 
  • This position requires regular physical exertion with significant walking and standing in a production environment.
