Pulper Operator 

The primary responsibility of a Pulper Operator is to produce stock to achieve the defined standard efficiently and safely.  

 

This includes ensuring the safety and efficiency of the process and communicating effectively with colleagues to ensure that product is processed safely, efficiently, accurately and to the right quality to deliver performance targets. Solve operational, process and product problems. Contributing to Continual Improvement and driving improvements in safety, housekeeping, workplace organisation and environment, linking to SQDCP.  

 

All duties must be performed in strict adherence to safety procedures. 

 

You will be responsible for; 

  • Produce stock to meet the defined standard  

  • Optimising raw material usage.  

  • Monitoring equipment condition and assisting with maintenance  

  • Solving operation, process and product problems  

  • Training new operatives as required  

  • Providing verbal and written communication when necessary  

  • Comprehensive recording of all necessary information.  

  • Following and contributing to improvements in safety, housekeeping, workplace organisation and environment  

  • Thorough understanding and use of Safe Systems of Work and procedures in the pulper area.  

  • Controlling activities such as wash ups and breakdowns.  

  • Recognising deficient equipment and either rectifying or reporting the fault.  

  • Striving to make continuous improvements in the role by reviewing processes including efficiencies and quality.  

 

Due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement that the job holder must have full colour vision. 

 

This is a Grade C - 3 Shift role 

 

What will make you successful? 

Previous experience in a manufacturing environment with a strong understanding of machinery and equipment operation Strong communication and teamwork skills: Ability to work with others, comfortable in taking and giving direction with peers where necessary to achieve operational goals.  

 

  • Safety and Environment knowledge and skills such as locking off, manual handling Safe Systems of Work and waste/broke management, COSHH.  

  • Experience with raw materials such as pulps, broke and waste and effects they can have on shade  

  • Knowledge of quality procedures, specifications, and product attributes 

  • Understanding of how to complete relevant documentation and use company computer systems  

  • Recognising safety hazards associated with operating a pulper and driving a Fork Lift Truck, carrying out Risk Assessments and developing Safe Systems of Work to minimise the risks.  

  • Understanding the potential cost and environmental impact of inefficient use of resources  

  • Basic mill chemistry including pH and loading.  

  • Requires good colour vision
